Co-Living Apartment

Co-Living Apartment is a 20-unit co-living complex in the inner-city suburb of Ultimo, Sydney. It has been located here due to its close proximity to many of Sydney's universities and educational institutions. The building has 3 levels and is designed affordable, and sustainable with smart technology which provides young students to experience a new lifestyle. This includes smart and low energy consumption which promotes renewable energies and stores energy at a lower cost for students such as automated controls, energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, personalised comfort settings and a smart home system.

The ground floor is an open plan which is shared by the young students who are studying near the City area. In the center of the ground floor is a winter garden designed to incorporate and accentuate the main public spaces of the lobby area, collaborative workspace, lounge area, kitchenette, and dining area. The winter garden is the key communal element of the space, which allows the natural light to penetrate through to all floors from the atrium skylights and large glass windows.

The first and second floors are designed for the units where students can relax in a private space. There are 9 units and 1 shared unit on each floor with shared spaces for laundry, resting & Balcony. The void space in the center of the first and second floors allows the space to access natural light and connect to the winter garden. Each unit is designed simply and minimally using eco-friendly materials such as renewable fibers, Oak floors, and non-toxic paint considering the sustainability and the budget of the young students.

Concept Development | Co-Living Solution

The concept of this project is to provide a solution for Co-living to young students who may struggle

finding a place to stay in urban areas due to many circumstances such as high rental fee, etc.

The project considers some solution that can provide:

• Combined spaces of private and communal facilities

• Socialisation/ Collaboration/ Productivity

• Flexibility

This was a group project (Group of three) and my role was to sketch, design and render the Co-living Apartment after researching as a group.
